Seahawks’ Kam Chancellor finally ends lockout, joins team

The Seattle Seahawks finally got the help coach Pete Carroll has needed to get the team back on track. Safety Kam Chancellor has ended his lockout and returned to the team after missing the first two games of the season.

Chancellor sent a text to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, telling him that he still plans to deal with his contract situation, but not until after the 2015 season ends.

The three-time Pro Bowler was looking to restructure his four-year, $28 million contract extension, which only began in 2013. But the Seahawks wouldn't budge since it would show a willingness to allow other players to restructure their deals early in their contracts.

“I’m just happy to be back playing football, happy to be back with the organization and with my teammates,” Chancellor told the media at team practice today, reports The Seattle Times.

“Kam’s going to be with us for a long time,” Carroll added.

Since he missed the first two games of the season - which were both losses - Chancellor missed two game checks worth $267,647 each. He had not been with the team since June and missed all four games of the preseason.

Chancellor has been a big part of Seattle’s ‘Legion of Boom,’ helping the team win the Super Bowl after the 2013 season. Chancellor also played in the Super Bowl earlier this year, despite an injury. He was drafted by the Seahawks in 2010 and has eight interceptions in his career.

The Seahawks face the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
