Sony’s ‘Angry Birds’ movie gets first trailer, reminds you of their existence (Video)

Remember Angry Birds? Yeah, neither do we, but Sony and game developer Rovio are hoping that at least children are still enamored with them because they’ve invested millions into a movie about them.

Sony released the first trailer for the film and it features just about every annoying cliche from today’s animated movies, right down to the all-star cast of actors seeking extra paychecks.

The plot hopes to explain why the birds are so angry, which isn’t exactly something that many people were wondering about. Anyway, our hero Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) is an easily angered bird who befriends Chuck (Josh Gad - because we need a Frozen link) and Bomb (Danny McBride). The annoying green pigs arrive to take over the birds’ happy island and, we assume, our main characters must put their differences behind them and overcome their shortcomings to save their friends from the pigs.

The movie was announced way back in December 2012 and is being directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly. The film reportedly cost $185 million to make.

Angry Birds opens on May 20, 2016, seven years after the game was first made available.
