While one would think that two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash would work as a consultant with one of his former teams, it turns out that his first post-retirement job in the league could be with the Golden State Warriors.
League sources told ESPN’s Marc Stein today that Nash is in talks with the Warriors to join as a part-time player development consultant for the defending NBA Finals champs.
Stein reports that Nash wasn’t interested in going into coaching after he announced his retirement in March, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr and team president Rick Welts pursued him. They want him to spend a few days each month with the team to work with Warriors guards on their skills.
While Nash was with the Lakers during his last injury-plagued season, the 41-year-old did essentially act in this capacity with Jordan Clarkson. He also worked with other guards this summer.
Kerr and Nash have a long relationship, since Kerr was the general manager for the Phoenix Suns from 2007 to 2010, notes CBS Sports.
Nash played in the NBA from 1996 through 2014, although he was only in 15 games in his last season due to injuries. He played with the Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers.
As for the Warriors, they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals in June.
