Trailer Weekly: 'Knock Knock,' Will Smith's 'Concussion' and 'Deadpool'

This week’s column has talks about a diverse selection of movie genres from thriller/horror to sports drama to action/adventure/sci-fi. Knock Knock is a horrific thriller where a husband and father stays home alone then unwittingly lets two supposedly stranded girls use his phone, which turns into a game of seduction and sheer fright. Concussion tells the true tale of a doctor, who made the first discovery of brain-related injuries in professional football players. Deadpool follows a former Special Ops agent, who finds he has enhanced healing powers thanks to a rogue experiment performed on him. All three films have some serious star power in their casts, which will surely cause their fans to flock to each movie’s opening day at their local theater. In addition, all three motion pictures have high levels of emotion, suspense and intrigue, which is another reason moviegoers might decide to go and see these movies.

Knock Knock is a horror/thriller starring Keanu Reeves. Reeves plays Evan Webber, a devoted husband and father left at home on a holiday weekend, thanks to an injury, while his wife and children go on a beach trip. Then, seemingly stranded young girls knock on his door asking to use his phone, he lets them in as a kind gesture, which ultimately leads to terror and ruination. The film’s trailer illustrates how sometimes being helpful can lead to your downfall as Reeves’ character is seduced then tortured by these two young women. It opens in theaters on Friday, October 9.

Concussion stars Will Smith, Lost’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alec Baldwin, Treme’s David Morse and Albert Brooks. In this gripping true story, Smith plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, a gifted forensic neuropathologist, who first discovered brain-related injuries in professional football players. The movie’s trailer shows how Dr. Omalu fought to get his results heard against those who wanted to keep his finding under wraps, in order to save the lives of these professional athletes. It opens in theaters on Friday, December 25.

Deadpool stars The Transporter Refueled’s Ed Skrein, Ryan Reynolds and Gotham’s Morena Baccarin. This actioner is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It chronicles how Wade Wilson (Reynolds,) an ex-Special ops agent, finds out he is deathly ill, so he agrees to be part of a rogue experiment in an effort to save his life. It ends up giving him accelerated healing ability and causes him to adopt the alter ego, Deadpool. The thrill ride’s trailer displays how Wilson learns that he has cancer in several major organs so he agrees to take part in an experiment that could save his life. Afterward, he finds he has superhuman abilities such as the ability to heal rapidly so he decides to adopt the secret identity, Deadpool and becomes a crime fighter. It opens in theaters on Friday, February 12, 2016.
