Video that appears to show a Minnesota Vikings fan on the ground, being beaten by San Francisco 49ers fans outside Levi’s Stadium after the 49ers’ win over the Vikings Monday night. Santa Clara, California police are investigating.
A spokesman for the department told ESPN that they are investigating the incident. They are seeking further information from fans.
According to San Jose Inside.com, the video was posted to Facebook by Brandon Cosio, who wrote that the Vikings fan got into an argument with a 49ers fan who is not in the video. Cosio claimed that the Vikings fan instigated the scene just before the video begins.
In the video, the Vikings fan is seen already on the ground and is punched and kicked by several people in Niners jerseys. At one point, a person in a Niners jersey kicks the man in the head. At the end, a security staffer leads the Vikings fan away.
In his Facebook post, Casio wrote that there were no police at the scene.
“We are aware of the disturbing incident following last night's game and are working in collaboration with the Santa Clara Police Department to investigate,” the 49ers said in a statement today. “The 49ers and our public safety partners have a steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Levi's Stadium and unacceptable behavior such as this will not be tolerated.”
This is just the latest incident of violence between sports fans in the San Francisco area. CBS News reported in July that a man was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in an assault on two others in a bathroom at Levi’s Stadium on Oct. 5, 2014.
