If critics and audiences are getting a bit tired of so many superhero movies, Zack Snyder isn't worried, as he feels Batman v. Superman will transcend the genre.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Zack Snyder was asked about Steven Spielberg recently saying that superhero movies will begin to die out. Snyder says he doesn't necessarily disagree, but that Batman and Superman transcend superhero films.
“It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making,” he said. “I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman."
He then threw in a jab at the competition, adding, "They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”
Snyder isn't the only one claiming that Batman v. Superman isn't your typical superhero movie. Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Lex Luther, recently said that Batman v. Superman is "not a cartoonish superhero movie," praising the writing and directing.
"It's this very serious, well acted, well written, well directed movie," he continued. "It's really phenomenal."
So could Batman v. Superman actually transcend everything we know about superhero movies? Or is the creative team simply trying to make their film stand out from the incredibly bloated slate of comic book movies?
