Last week, a report that 20th Century Fox is working on a Die Hard prequel surfaced and Bruce Willis is still supposed to be involved. The actor, whose life completely changed when the original Die Hard opened, finally spoke about the idea at a recent red carpet event.
Willis was at the New York premiere for Rock the Kasbah on Monday and Entertainment Tonight asked him about the rumor.
“It's a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I'm very happy about it,” Willis told ET. “It's a really cool idea, because it's the origin story. It's gonna happen at the beginning of this. We're going to bounce back and forth.”
The new film will reportedly be directed by Len Wiseman, who helmed Live Free Or Die Hard, and will tell the story of a young John McClane. Willis, now 60 and 27 years removed from the first time he played the character, is still expected to be involved.
The new film would be the sixth in the Die Hard series and first since 2013’s A Good Day To Die Hard. The project is currently titled Die Hard: Year One.
In the meantime, Willis can be seen in Rock the Kasbah with Bill Murray starting this weekend. He’s also going to be starring on Broadway in Misery, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel.
