For Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward once again sported the tribute eye black that got him fined by the NFL last week.
ESPN noted that Heyward came out with black tape under his eyes which displayed the words “Iron” and “Head.” The words reference his father, former NFL fullback Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, who died of cancer in 2006.
As we previously reported, the 26-year-old was fined $5,787 by the league for the tribute.
News of the penalty had many questioning why he was fined for honoring his late father, especially when the league is supporting cancer awareness this month.
Despite one fine and facing a potential second fine, Heyward said he is going to continue wearing the eye tape.
“There have been others, and I'm not going to name any names, that have worn it to support cancer,” he said. “I don't want to get involved in it, but it's bigger than me. I'm not going to shy away from the fight against cancer, and I'm going to support them in any way possible."
