Paul, who suffered the injury during Saturday’s practice, is expected to miss Sunday’s preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets in China. Per NBA.com, the injury is not considered serious and Paul will be reevaluated before the Clippers’ rematch against the Hornets on Wednesday.

Paul, an eight-time All-Star who averaged 19.1 points, 10.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 2014-15, is a focal point of the Clippers and widely considered the best point guard in the NBA.

Behind Paul’s guidance, the Clippers made the Western Conference semifinals last season, even taking a commanding 3-1 series lead against the Houston Rockets before catastrophically losing three straight games and conceding the series 4-3.

Clippers backup point guard Austin Rivers is also out via a mouth injury, according to Bleacher Report. Veteran Jamal Crawford is likely to play a greater role in the absence of Paul and Rivers in the meantime.

The Clippers open the regular season Oct. 28 on the road against the Sacramento Kings, and Paul should be fully recovered by then.
