Per ESPN, James has been suffering from a sore back, and received an anti-inflammatory back injection earlier this week that could keep him out until the Cavaliers’ season opener against the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 27.

“We’ll see what happens at the beginning of next week,” Cavs head coach David Blatt said. “I certainly don’t expect him to play both games and I don’t know if he’ll even play one. We’ll see,” reported the New York Post.

With two games remaining in the preseason, the Cavs have struggled, losing all five of its exhibition games thus far and being shorthanded along the way, playing without injured stars Kyrie Irving (knee) and Kevin Love (shoulder), and key contributor Iman Shumpert (wrist), as well as Tristan Thompson, who remains unsigned and is not with the team.

“We’re really happy with how LeBron came into camp, came in great shape and has worked very, very hard,” Blatt added. “We want to take good care of him for the start of the season. As you know in his great and storied career, he has amassed a lot of miles. We’re trying to keep those preseason miles to a minimum.”
