A spinoff dedicated to everyone's favorite Lego Movie character is on the way and a new name has just joined the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rosario Dawson has been cast as Batgirl in Lego Batman. Dawson is known for starring in films such as Clerks II, Rent, and Death Proof. Recently, she ventured into the world of comic books when she played Claire on Daredevil.
Lego Batman is a spinoff of The Lego Movie which will star Will Arnett as The Caped Crusader once again. The cast also includes Michael Cera as Robin and Zack Galifianakis as the Joker. It will be directed by Chris McKay, animation supervisor on The Lego Movie, and written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). Obviously, this will have nothing to do with DC's universe of Batman films.
This is one of several Lego movies Warner Bros. has already announced for the next few years. We'll also be getting Ninjago in 2016 followed by The Lego Movie 2 in 2018. The original Lego Movie was a massive success, grossing nearly $500 million worldwide, so it appears the studio is trying to build its own shared universe of Lego-related films over the next several years.
Lego Batman will hit theaters in 2017.
