'The Big Bang Theory' Recap: 'The Platonic Permutation'

On this week’s Thanksgiving episode of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon wants someone to go to the annual Thanksgiving lunch buffet at the aquarium cafeteria with him. He has an extra ticket since he is no longer with Amy. Everyone declines as they already have other plans and don’t really want to go.

Sheldon video chats with Amy and offers her the two tickets to the aquarium. Amy can tell Sheldon really wants to go, so she suggests that they go as friends.

To reduce the awkwardness, Sheldon comes prepared with a list of topics to discuss. On the way to the aquarium, they find that this list isn’t working out too well. Amy tells Sheldon that they have been together for a long time so he can talk about anything. This prompts Sheldon to ask if she is having coitus with the other men she is seeing. Amy briefly tells him about her dates and says that she hasn’t slept with anyone. Sheldon asks Amy if she has any questions for him. She just asks if he is okay to which he replies, yes.

After the mediocre aquarium buffet, Sheldon suggests they play a game called “friend, food, or fight.” Amy says that it is like “kiss, marry kill.” Sheldon however has never heard of this game.

After playing a bit, Amy says she misses this. Sheldon misunderstands what she means and asks how she can miss a game that she never played.

Later on, Amy calls Sheldon and tells her that she thinks she is ready to be his girlfriend again. Sheldon tells her that getting over her was very hard to do and he thinks they should just be friends. Amy is upset, fighting back tears.

Bernadette, Howard, Raj and Emily have their own plans. They all show up at the soup kitchen where they are volunteering. However, Howard isn’t very thrilled about being there. He gets excited when they are told they have enough volunteers for the night. His joy ends up being short lived as when they are just about to leave, they are told a large group cancelled and they can use help.

They are put in the back to wash dishes, which no one is fond of. After a little while, three spots open up front. Bernadette, Raj and Emily jump at the opportunity before Howard can, leaving him in the back.

To Howard’s surprise, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk walks to the back to help with the dishes. Apparently, he was giving out too much gravy up front. Howard is very excited to meet him so he tries to impress him. Musk gives Howard his e-mail incase he needs his assistant in the future since he is often looking for engineers.

Meanwhile, Penny and Leonard are cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for everyone. Leonard is fully equipped with Spock oven mitts. Leonard asks Penny to pull up the recipes on his iPad, telling her his password is his birthday. This is when Leonard discovers that Penny doesn’t know what day his birthday is. To rub it in, Leonard talks about all the things he knows about Penny. One of the things he mentions is that she doesn’t like the lingerie he got her for Valentines Day, because it is orange and it makes her look like a slutty carrot. Penny is shocked he knows this as she has never told him or anyone else that. She did however write it in her journal. Leonard pretends to not know she has a journal, but Penny knows he is lying.

Leonard tries to make things up to Penny by reading her something from his online journal. He tries to read her something nice to butter her up. She demands to hear the most recent thing. She grabs his tablet and reads a post expressing his excitement for the new Star Wars.

Trying to make things up to Penny, Leonard walks out in the orange lingerie he bought her. He says that she can take a picture and post it on Facebook. Penny quickly declines as she never wants anyone to see this. Leonard starts dancing around in a sexy manner in the lingerie. This is when the gang all walks in and witnesses it.
