After exploring the depressing nature of cubicle life on The Office, Ed Helms is producing a new comedy about working in a chain restaurant.
According to Deadline, FX has just purchased Starters, which is being described as “a dark comedy set in America’s true underbelly of chemical addiction and appetizers: corporate theme restaurant chains."
Helms will serve as executive producer, and attached as director and showrunner is Will Graham. No, not the FBI profiler chasing after Hannibal Lecter, but the former executive producer of Onion News Network. Author and humorist Dan Kennedy has also joined the series.
This is the second half-hour comedy Helms has sold in the past few weeks. He is also producing a new Fox show called Weird Like Us, which follows two counterculture rebels who face a family crisis when their kids go mainstream. Colbert Report alum Max Werner will write the script for the pilot episode.
Helms isn't the only former Office star to sell a new workplace sitcom, as Angela Kinsey is heading to TBS for a new comedy about call centers called 1-800.
For fans of The Office who are still missing the series like crazy, you can now look forward to the triumphant return of Angela and the Nard Dog.
