Jason Bateman joins Liam Neeson in Watergate drama 'Felt'

Jason Bateman has delivered some excellent performances in serious films lately like The Gift and Disconnect and now the actor has just joined a new movie about Watergate.

According to Variety, Bateman has signed on to Felt, an upcoming thriller about special agent Mark Felt, known as "Deep Throat" until 2005. Bateman will play FBI agent Charlie Bates, who discovers that Felt is the man leaking classified information to The Washington Post and is conflicted about what to do. Felt's information would expose Richard Nixon's Watergate plot and lead to the president's eventual downfall in 1974.

Bateman stars opposite Liam Neeson, who will portray Mark Felt, as we previously reported. Also set for the film is Diane Lane as Mark Felt's wife, Audrey, and the movie will examine the difficulties the couple had keeping Mark's secret for so long.

Felt is being described as a "taut thriller," and it will be written and directed by Peter Landesman (Parkland, Concussion). Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions is set to produce, and principal photography will begin in April 2016.
