Lawsuit over Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ lyrics dismissed with Swift lyrics

Judges might look serious in the courtroom, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a sense of humor. One with a wicked sense of humor got a recent Taylor Swift plagiarism case and couldn’t resist using the singer’s lyrics to dismiss it.

Earlier this month, a singer named Jessie Braham claimed that one of the most famous lines in “Shake It Off” was a rip off of his 2013 song “Haters Gone Hate.” The song sounds absolutely nothing like “Shake It Off,” but Braham wanted $42 million from Swift.

U.S. District Court Judge Gail Standish dismissed the case on Tuesday, reports The Los Angeles Times, but not without letting everyone know that she’s a Swift fan.

“At present, the Court is not saying that Braham can never, ever, ever get his case back in court,” Standish wrote in her conclusion. “But, for now, we have got problems, and the Court is not sure Braham can solve them.”

In one paragraph, Standish managed to squeeze in references to “Shake It Off,” “We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together” and “Blank Space.” It looks like someone has 1989 on repeat.
