Mo'Nique admits to having open marriage with husband Sidney Hicks, gives him a 'pass to cheat'

Mo’Nique is revealing a policy she has in her marriage to Sidney Hicks, which might surprise some people. She said in a new interview that she allows him to have relationships outside of their marriage.

The actress said the key to their successful marriage is “honesty,” but they take that one step further than most by having brutally “open and honest conversations.”

She talked about giving Hicks a “pass to cheat,” explaining to True Exclusives, “When you’re with your best friend and you say to your best friend ‘I’m having these feelings about this person, sexually and I wanna share it with you.’”

“Often times people cheat because of something they’re not getting,” she continued. “What is it about that person that you find that you wanna sleep with? Because they may give you something that I’m simply not willing to do. And if that’s the case, how can I be mad? Because I’m not gon’ do it. Should I deprive you of not having it? That’s when the relationship is real real.”

Mo’Nique went on to say it’s a “Western” way of thinking that we only have one partner, saying she agrees more with the way African Kings approached their love lives. She doesn't mention if she's given a "pass" in return.

“Tell me one of them who just had one wife. Do you know any of them? I don’t,” she said. “That’s where I originate from. So when we came here, we adopted other people’s ways, and that’s called ownership. There was a time when I was owned before. I don’t want to be owned anymore.”
