Stephen Curry passes his dad for career three-pointers

Stephen Curry has done it again.

On Saturday night, Stephen Curry made five 3-pointers as the Warriors edged the Brooklyn Nets 107-99 in overtime, giving the Warriors their 11th straight win and the younger Curry the family bragging rights.

Curry’s third 3-pointer of the game gave him 1,246 for his career, surpassing his father Dell’s career tally of 1,245.

It took Dell Curry, a sharpshooter in his own right, a 16-year NBA career spanning from 1986 to 2002 to reach that mark while it only took the younger Curry 427 games to eclipse it.

Curry, who entered Saturday’s game with a career average of 2.9 three-pointers per game, moved into 42nd place on the NBA’s all-time three-point shooting list, ranking 12th among active players, according to SI.

The 27-year-old reigning NBA MVP is having a blistering start to the season, averaging an absurd 33.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per contest while hoisting 11.5 three-pointers per game.

Not only that, Curry is currently shooting 51.7% from the field, 45.2% from 3-point range, and 93.0% from the free throw line, which are absolutely unmatched shooting percentages for a volume shooter of his caliber.

At this rate, Curry is on pace to shatter his own record of 286 three-pointers made in a season, as he currently have 57 makes through 11 games.

More importantly, the Warriors are off to a franchise-best 11-0 start, all coming without their head coach Steve Kerr, who has been sidelined since the beginning of the season.

Should the Warriors’ run keep going, they have a chance to match the NBA record for most wins to begin a season (15), a feat shared by the 1948-1949 Washington Bullets and the 1993-1994 Houston Rockets.
