DC has been hyping up how dark their new movie Suicide Squad is so many fans were hoping it might receive an R rating. Now, a producer has confirmed that isn't the case.
In an interview with Collider, producer Charles Roven revealed that Suicide Squad will almost definitely be rated PG-13 like all of DC's other films.
He explained that DC hopes to keep their shared universe tonally consistent, and so presumably they wouldn't want to rate Batman v. Superman PG-13 but then make Suicide Squad rated R. However, Roven did note that movie will be "right there on the edge of PG-13."
The idea of Suicide Squad being R wasn't entirely out of the question, as Deadpool will get that rating while also taking place in the same universe as the PG-13 X-Men series. DC has also really been playing up the fact that the movie will be gritty and violent, emphasizing Jared Leto's insane performance as the Joker and even having a therapist on set for the cast.
Suicide Squad will star Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Cara Delevingne. For a closer look, check out the footage released at San Diego Comic-Con. Don't expect to see more anytime soon, though, as Roven told Collider there will not be another trailer until the beginning of 2016.
Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
