Following in the footsteps of shows like Catfish, SyFy has just greenlighted a new reality series about the dangers of social media.
According to Deadline, SyFy will soon begin production on a six-part, half-hour series called The Internet Ruined My Life. As the title bluntly suggests, each episode will tell stories of people whose posts on social media backfired on them, such as a tweet that got two friends arrested and a person whose picture was turned into a hateful meme.
“With technology making it possible to communicate to anyone, anytime, from anywhere, what was once the stuff of science fiction is now an everyday reality,” said Heather Olander, SyFy's senior vice president of alternative development and production.
This is the latest in a series of reality shows to be broadcast on SyFy including Ghost Hunters, Face Off, Heroes of Cosplay, Wizard Wars, Paranormal Witness and Haunting: Australia. The network also recently premiered the game show Geeks Who Drink, meaning its current lineup consists of more unscripted shows than scripted ones. The network's reality series Face Off has been particularly successful, and it was recently renewed for a 10th season.
The Internet Ruined My Life will premiere in early 2016.
