Jordan Smith from 'The Voice' beats Adele on iTunes

On last week's semi-finals of The Voice, contestant Jordan Smith received a standing ovation and surpassed Adele on the iTunes chart with his performance of "Somebody to Love."

The singer who is a member of Team Adam, told People he is a big fan of Adele and described her writing style and voice as "otherworldly."

"I was actually on the red carpet doing press after the show. We were all checking the charts anyway just to see how everybody was doing," Smith said. "I opened my phone and saw it and I almost was moved to tears. It was so incredible!"

The contestant felt honored to have beaten the songstress and said, "There's just something about what she does that cannot be matched, so to see my name up there with her is an incredible compliment. I, in no way, feel I'm anywhere near her category."

Smith even tweeted Adele about taking her spot for a brief period of timing, thanking the "Hello" singer for letting him have the top spot.

The season finale of The Voice will air tonight at 8 p.m.  on NBC.
