David Bowie’s ‘Labyrinth’ getting sequel from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ writer

A sequel to the Jim Henson fantasy film Labyrinth, which starred David Bowie, is in the works. Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman is writing the script.

Initially, The Hollywood Reporter called the new project a “reboot,” but Entertainment Weekly now says that the project is a sequel instead.

The 1986 film wasn’t a box office hit at the time and Henson ended up never directing another film before he died in 1990. However, the film has become a favorite for those who grew up watching it and is now a cult favorite.

Connolly played a teen whose younger brother is kidnapped by the Goblin King, played by Bowie. She has to make it through a maze to save her brother. It was written by Monty Python’s Terry Jones and George Lucas was an executive producer.

Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company will produce with Sony’s TriStar label.

Perlman was the co-writer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. She is also co-writing Captain Marvel with Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve.
