At least 7 dead after powerful storms, tornadoes sweep through East Coast

A line of powerful storms ripped through parts of the East Coast on Feb. 23 and 24, killing at least seven people and leaving behind a path of destruction in several communities.

People noted that the storm system, which packed 100 mph winds and spawned multiple tornadoes, claimed the life of a toddler in Waverly, Virginia.

Authorities said that the 2-year-old and two adult males were killed when their mobile home was damaged by the storm.

"All three were found approximately 300 yards from the mobile home," a police statement read.

The storms are also being blamed for the deaths of three people in Louisiana and Mississippi, and the total number of deaths in Virginia so far stands at four, bringing the death toll to seven.

CNN reported that as many as 52 tornadoes may have touched down over the past two days, leaving the lives of so many in ruins, and it may not be over yet. Meteorologist Judson Jones said that the backend of the system could bring snow to the Great Lakes and high wind gusts to the Northeast.
