Police have identified Brussels suicide bombers as brothers

Police have identified the Brussels airport suicide bombers as Ibrahim el-Bakraoui, 29, and Khalid el-Bakraoui, 27, who detonated suicide bombs. A possible third suspect is still on the run.

As we previously reported, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks on Tuesday, March 22. Their statement reads, “Islamic State fighters carried out a series of bombings with explosive belts and devices on Tuesday, targeting an airport and a central metro station in the center of the Belgian capital Brussels, a country participating in the coalition against the Islamic State. Islamic State fighters opened fire inside the Zaventem airport, before several of them detonated their explosive belts, as a martyrdom bomber detonated his explosive belt in the Maalbeek metro station.”

Authorities are still looking for Najim Laachraoui, who has been linked to the Paris attacks, but his involvement isn’t clear at this point.
