Richard Belzer returning to ‘Law & Order: SVU’ in May

Richard Belzer will be back for a special episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The episode is slated to air in May.

Belzer’s character, Detective Munch, retired during season 15. However, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that he will make an appearance in the May episode “Fashionable Crimes.”

Munch helps the team solve a case centering on a young model who thinks a photographer is preying on her. Fin (Ice-T) and Munch had their sights on the photographer for awhile, so Munch is called back to help.

“We love having Richard back on set,” executive producer Warren Leight told EW. “This episode was perfect for Munch’s cynical eye, and just the right time for him to give Benson [Mariska Hargitay], and Noah, some much needed support.”

While Munch is coming back, there is one familiar face fans will not be seeing on SVU any time soon. Christopher Meloni confirmed earlier this month that he hasn’t heard from anyone about ever playing Detective Stabler again.

SVU airs on NBC on Wednesdays at 9 p.m.
