After news broke that singing legend Prince died on Thursday, April 21, the world honored him by lighting up the skies with the color purple.
A number of landmarks turned purple to pay tribute to the musician including the I-35 Bridge in his hometown of Minneapolis, the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Las Vegas High Roller to name a few. Even NASA paid homage to the musical legend by sharing a photo of a purple nebula via its social media accounts.
In Canada, the famed Niagara Falls as well as several other landmarks were already lit purple, first to honor Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, then in tribute to Prince.
Google also joined in honoring the late singer by changing its letters to all purple with of course, some rain. The cover of the May 2 edition of The New Yorker is purple with raindrops as well.
