'Saturday Night Live' announces a Prince tribute special, 'Goodnight Sweet Prince'

In the wake of the death of cultural icon Prince, a cultural institution - Saturday Night Live - has stepped up to honor him with a tribute special.

On April 22, the series took to Instagram to announce that a special, in honor of Prince, will air during the series' regular time slot of 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.

A tribute to Prince. Tomorrow night at 11:30.

The special - titled Goodnight Sweet Prince, according to SNL's website - will not replace a new episode of the series, as it is currently on a short hiatus before returning with host Brie Larson on May 7, which Larson announced earlier this week.

SNL joins other late night figures - including James Corden and Stephen Colbert - in paying tribute to the late singer's passing.
