Sony has just released the first trailer for Inferno, the upcoming sequel to The Da Vinci Code, starring Tom Hanks.
In the trailer, Hanks reprises his role of Robert Langdon, symbology professor at Harvard. Langdon must solve yet another conspiracy, this time in order to save the world from a terrifying plague. Ron Howard, director of The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, returns to adapt the novel from Dan Brown. Also returning is Angels & Demons screenwriter David Koepp.
Starring alongside Hanks is Felicity Jones, who is about to have an absolutely fantastic 2016. After being nominated at the Academy Awards for her performance in The Theory of Everything, Jones will portray the lead character in the upcoming Star Wars film, Rogue One. Plus, she stars in the upcoming fantasy drama A Monster Calls with Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver.
It's been seven years since the most recent movie in the Dan Brown conspiracy series, Angels & Demons and that sequel did not perform nearly as well as The Da Vinci Code, according to Box Office Mojo. Nevertheless, Sony is set to open Inferno in October, whereas Angels & Demons opened in May. There's not much action/adventure competition that month, so hopefully a less crowded time of year will help make Inferno a hit.
Inferno hits theaters on October 28.
