Melania Trump’s speech writer Meredith McIver takes responsibility for plagiarized remarks

Newsflash: Melania Trump did not write her now-infamous speech from Monday night, but we know who did and she has taken responsibility and apologized for the lifted remarks.

Ms. McIver, who is a longtime Trump employee, wrote the words including some of which came directly from First Lady Michelle Obama’s address eight years ago at the Democratic National Convention.

As we reported, Melania’s RNC speech came under fire and was she criticized on social media after it was noticed that she used the exact same wording and phrases in her speech that Mrs. Obama did previously.

McIver released a full statement on Wednesday explaining that she wrote the speech and made the "mistake" of lifting some of the First Lady’s words.

“This was my mistake and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama.”

McIver also revealed that she decided to resign over her blunder but Donald Trump would not hear of it. She said the Republican Presidential Nominee told her that “people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences.”
