This is a storm that Al Roker did not forecast when he was airing out his grievances regarding Ryan Lochte's "over-exaggerated" lie.
Page Six reports that Today show executives and staffers were not enthused about Roker's on-air tirade against Lochte and his fictitious narrative about being held at gunpoint during the Rio Olympic Games.
On Saturday, Aug. 20, Roker communicated his feelings over the Lochte scandal to Billy Bush, ranting "He lied! He lied to you, he lied to Matt Lauer, he lied to his mom. He left his teammates hanging while he skedaddled."
Allegedly this did not sit well with the Today team and Roker's emotional eruption left the U.S. Olympic Committee feeling uncomfortable.
"NBC staff thought he took it way too far for something that, while it was certainly a legitimate issue and certainly bad behavior for Lochte, outrage to that level wasn't justified," the insider disclosed.
Additionally, multiple staff members reportedly wanted to distance themselves from Roker's reaction.
An anonymous NBC executive has reached out to Page Six to counter these claims as "not true."
"No one feels that way," the executive claims. "In fact, everyone here is happy. Specifically, with the Today Show's ratings."
