Jared Leto has joined Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel.
It's unknown which character the Dallas Buyers Club and Suicide Squad star will play or how big of a role it is. Robin Wright from House of Cards and Dave Bautista from Guardians of the Galaxy also star.
Villeneuve revealed that the film takes place in Los Angeles several decades after the original.
"The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic," Villenueve said to Entertainment Weekly.
Villeneuve is best known for directing Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Sicario with Emily Blunt. His cinematographer on both of those films, Roger Deakins, joins him for the Blade Runner sequel. The film is written by Hampton Fancher, the original's co-writer as well as Green Lantern co-writer Michael Green.
Leto has also starred in Fight Club, American Psycho, and Requiem for a Dream. He received an Academy Award in 2014 for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
Blade Runner was directed by Ridley Scott and released in June 1982. It was selected by the National Film Registry for preservation 11 years later.
The sequel is set for release on Oct. 6, 2017.
