Olympic stars Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps and Simone Biles grace Sports Illustrated cover

It was only a matter of time before Sports Illustrated tapped the three Team USA standouts for an Olympic cover.

Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps and Simone Biles took time off from dominating their competitors at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and merged together for a joint photoshoot which showcased their golden embellishments.

A total of 14 medals between the Olympians grace the front of the publication. Ledecky adorns five medals, while the record-breaking Phelps wears six.

Biles is seen with three medals and after the Aug. 15 balance beam final, her count rose to four as she nabbed a bronze.

SI revealed the photo session between the athletes took place soon after Biles reigned supreme at the women's gymnastics vault final. They also disclosed there was an "easy rapport" between the champions.

According to a video posted by Sports Illustrated, Phelps, the 23-time gold medal recipient, even assisted Ledecky and Biles in positioning their hardware for the shoot.

This marks the 11th time that Phelps has appeared on the front of the magazine. He emerged on his first Sports Illustrated cover in 2004 before the Athens Summer Olympics.
