‘Central Intelligence’ Blu-ray movie review

Central Intelligence is a cheesy action comedy flick. You can’t help but groan at the corny jokes, but it makes for a fun evening anyway. Warner Home Video released the film on Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on Sept. 27. The movie was released on Digital HD on Sept. 13 for early birds.

Central Intelligence coverBob Stone is a geek that was bullied in high school for his weight. Calvin was the big man on campus and the only student that was nice to him. Bob has grown up to be a buff CIA agent (played by Dwayne Johnson) while Calvin (played by Kevin Hart) is struggling with his life as an accountant. They meet up before their 20-year high school reunion and Bob tricks Calvin into helping him with a case. Bob is being investigated by the CIA for the murder of his partner and selling government secrets to the highest bidder. Can he be trusted?

The film had a fairly predictable plot. The villain in the end isn’t much of a surprise, nor are the feel good vibes between Hart and Johnson’s characters. While you know what’s coming, the journey to get there is still a lot of fun. The jokes are silly, but still make you laugh. It’s full of slapstick and low brow humor, but somehow it works. The action sequences may be obvious, but they still pull the film along.

While not the best movie you’ll watch this year, the film is still enjoyable. If you’re looking for something mindless to entertain you on a Friday night at home, this could be the perfect pick. Fans of Hart and Johnson or slapstick comedy will appreciate this movie. If you prefer your films without toilet jokes and cheesy dialogue, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
