Bookcase.Club October 2016 Quarterly Cookbooks subscription unboxing review

Bookcase.Club sent me a shipment in October of their Quarterly Cookbooks box. The company mails out monthly and quarterly boxes of books in the genre of your choosing. You can pick from YA, thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy, children’s picture books, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, cookbooks or military history.

Each package includes two new, never used, books and the company donates a free book to the Books for Keeps charity for every subscription they receive. Interested? See what I found inside.

Every book genre you pick ships in the above box. It immediately catches your eye with its blue and white logo. I love custom boxes because it gives you a sense of excitement when you open the mailbox.

At the top of the package was this insert. It tells a bit about the books included and has a handwritten sentiment at the bottom which I thought was a nice touch.

The first book in the box was called Baking… Made Simple by Love Food, an imprint of Parragon Books. Parragon is a U.K. publishing house, so I was a little worried the recipes would be in metric. However, they’re actually written in both European and American format, so no problems there.

The chapters inside the book are cakes and gateaux, small bites, desserts, baking with yeast and savory nibbles. Every recipe looks fairly easy and has a full-color photo of the finished product. They all look yummy and my fiancé has already gone through the book and left markers on the ones he’d like me to make. It’s the perfect time of year for a baking cookbook with the cooler weather rolling in.

The second book in the shipment is Top Secret Recipes: Step By Step by Todd Wilbur. It’s full of recipes that replicate foods from various restaurants and name brands. It looks like a lot of fun. I’ve seen these cookbooks around but hadn’t picked one up yet. It has 125 recipes inside, most with step-by-step photos as well as pictures of the final products. I’m really looking forward to making some of them to compare to the real thing.

Overall, I think this was a great shipment. Baking… Made Simple sells for $8 on Amazon and Top Secret Recipes: Step By Step sells for just under $15. That’s a total of $23 value on a box that costs just $9.99 plus $5 shipping. Bookcase.Club is always an amazing deal.

While they not new releases, the books are always in new condition and you’ll find yourself expanding your reading horizons by receiving books you might not have known about otherwise. If you’re looking for an inexpensive gift idea for a friend who loves to cook or read, Bookcase.Club would be an ideal choice. Or buy it for yourself – you deserve it.
