DateBox Club is a monthly subscription service that ships curated date nights directly to your home. They include everything you need for the date including instructions and contain more than one activity. Past themes have been Illumination, Aussi Picnic and Patriotic, among others. I received this month’s Day of the Dead themed box and it was a lot of fun. Here’s what was inside.
Everything was shipped in a plain white box with a DateBox Club sticker on top. Inside, there was a brown envelope that held the instructions. Below that was pretty blue tissue paper hiding all the goodies. Having everything hidden built the suspense and it all arrived in perfect shape.
Inside the envelope were three laminated cards. The first gave an intro to the box on the front and date instructions on the back. The other two gave examples for the first activity on the front and questions for the second activity on the back. The instruction card also included a curated Spotify playlist for the date which was a fun touch.
First in the box were this candle and bag of candy corn. The candle is a pumpkin spice scent made of soy wax from Bella Luci. It was clean burning with an amazing smell and created the perfect atmosphere for our spooky date. The candy corn was made by Jelly Belly and was probably the best I’ve ever had. My fiancé is a candy corn fanatic, so this snack was a hit. We munched as we did our activities.
So, the first activity in the box is face painting. They included a nice set of Snazaroo paints complete with paintbrush, sponge and mixing tray, as well as a set of Snazaroo stencils. For those of you who don’t know, Snazaroo makes name brand quality face paints. They went on well and stayed without streaking which is more than I can say for the Halloween makeup I bought at a retail store this year.
We had the choice to go with the Dia de los Muertos theme or do some freestyle painting. The laminated cards gave step-by-step instructions for one face each, as well as finished faces in a variety of different styles. Mike went with the step-by-step sugar skull for my face, while I picked one from further down the card for his.
We used a mix of the face paints in the box and a couple of Halloween makeup pencils I bought last year which worked out nicely. DateBox Club says the point of the activity is connecting with your partner through touch. Mike was a little skeptical to start, but ended up having a lot of fun with it.
The last activity in the box were the questions on the backs of the cards. There was a list of 30 categories where you had to tell each other what your favorite was, such as favorite band, favorite soda, favorite poem or school subject. After those were answered, there were a variety of questions that reflected on your past before you were together. The activity really helped us get to know each other a little bit better.
So, the box held the makings for two activities and a Halloween atmosphere. It helped us connect as a couple through touch and talk and everything in the package was from a high quality name brand. The value of the items in the box is equal to the cost of the subscription and you have the added value of not having to come up with your own new activities for date night. Because really, who has the energy to come up with something different to do every month? This box is great to get you out of your date night slump and costs less than going out to dinner or a movie.
If you’re looking for a top quality box to add some spice to your relationship, click here to try DateBox Club. It costs only $35 per month plus $1.99 shipping. Because it’s an at-home box, you don’t even have to get a babysitter. Just wait until the kids are asleep and have a fun evening in. They even list the next month’s theme on social media so you can skip any that don’t appeal to you.
