Hue Monthly ‘Under the Sea’ theme subscription unboxing review

Hue Monthly is a bi-monthly subscription box that caters to adults who like to color. In addition to coloring books and utensils, they also include various relaxation items in each box to make it a truly tranquil experience. I tried out the August “Under the Sea” themed box to get a feel for what the subscription is like. Here’s what I found inside.

My items were shipped in a plain brown box with some paper padding inside. While the packaging wasn’t exciting, it did the job, so no complaints from me.

At the top of the box was a card insert that tells what all of the items are and their total value. According to the card, everything in the box has a total value of $61.

The first objects I pulled from the package were a bar of soap, a soy candle and a box of organic tea. The soap is a Dead Sea mud soap from Clear Naturals. It’s supposed to soothe impurities and is blended with both moisturizing and essential oils. It has a nice smell – a combination of woods and citrus. I have yet to try it, but it seems like really nice quality. Similar soaps sell on Amazon for between $9 and $12.

The candle is Sea Mist scent made by the tiny collection. It has more of a perfume smell than I’m usually comfortable with, but I kind of like it. I think it would be good to cover stronger scents you may find in your home. Just clean it up and light this candle. According to the tiny collection’s Etsy page, this candle is worth $6.

The tea I received is a Chamomile citrus blend by Tega organic teas. It’s a caffeine-free herbal tea and it has a smooth floral flavor with a hint of lemon. It is very tasty and according to the Tea website, it’s worth $6.99 per box.

The last things in the package are the coloring book and a box of colored pencils. Hue makes their own coloring books by working with different artists and having it printed and bound locally in Vancouver, BC.

The pictures inside the coloring book range from detailed and intricate to more space-filled designs.

The book is made of cardstock instead of paper which gives it a sturdier feel. It’s also spiral bound so you can lay your pictures flat while coloring. It’s nice not to have to fight against the spine of the book. It also means you can easily remove finished pictures if you’d like. The pages have a matte surface so you can use any type of art utensils with them from pencils to markers to watercolors. I’m really impressed with the book. Hue’s coloring books are exclusive to the box, but other spiral bound books sell on Amazon for between $9 and $16.

Lastly, is the Prang colored pencil set. It has 12 colors in it that range through the rainbow. They’re pre-sharpened and blendable and the back of the box even shows you various techniques for using them. They sell on Amazon for $3.99.

Overall, I didn’t find that the items totaled $61, but they still came in well over the price of the $30 box, which is great. Plus you can't go wrong with free shipping. Everything in the box was high quality. The tea tasted great, the candle wasn’t weakly scented and the coloring book was solid.

If you’re looking to get a little more money off, Hue is offering our readers 15% off with the coupon celeb15. Try them and add extra relaxation to your month. The next box goes out in December, so you have plenty of time to sign up. It would also make a great holiday gift for any stressed friends or relatives.
