On Oct. 18, Lionsgate released their new movie of action and espionage starring Ewan McGregor and Stellan Skarsgard. Our Kind of Traitor, based on the novel by John le Carre, keeps the adrenaline pumping and shows that the world is a series of greys when it comes to good and evil.
McGregor’s character and his wife meet a charismatic Russian, Dima, on vacation. He confides to McGregor that he’s the kingpin money launderer for the Russian mafia and he needs help to save his family. He wants to smuggle information to the British Secret Service in exchange for asylum, but it won’t be that simple. The couple is drawn into the case, undertaking a dangerous journey where they might not be able to trust the British government any more than the Russian mob.
The script for this movie is well written. The action and dialogue keep you on the edge of your seat and the acting is truly believable. The tension between McGregor’s character and his wife is palpable as is the mistrust of both the British Intelligence and the Russian mob. The movie keeps you wondering how things will turn out until the very end. Excellent story.
