Book Boyfriend Box December Love Letters subscription unboxing review

Book Boyfriend Box is a unique YA book subscription service that mails out a new release novel plus several items based on a new book boyfriend for each package. For example, October’s box focused on Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Boxes go out every two months. December’s theme was Love Letters and focused on the romantic heroes of Jane Austen. Here’s what was inside.

Everything was shipped in this plain white box with a logo sticker. The box was pretty beat up when it got here, but everything inside was okay.

I think the fact that everything made it in one piece is because it was all expertly packed. Things were fit in tightly and padded with shredded cardboard. On top was an art print with a Mr. Darcy quote that also doubled as the list of included items (on the back).

Near the top of the box was a notebook and pen. The notebook has a quote from Persuasion with pretty doodled roses in the top right corner. The pen is a plastic quill that writes smoothly. I have them both on my desk so I can make quick lists when needed.

Next in the package were a small bag of tea, a bar of soap and a drink coaster. The tea is citrus and roasted mate flavor. I’d never tried mate tea before, but it was delicious.

The soap is lavender scented and engraved with a quote from Price and Prejudice. It lathers up beautifully and smells wonderful. I’ve bumped it ahead for use instead of my usual shower bar.

The coaster is made with a real page from a copy of Persuasion and covered in plastic. It’s a nice conversation starter, but I can foresee summer drinks getting stuck to it when they sweat, so it might not get much use during the hotter months.

Below this month’s goodies were a couple of paper inserts. One gives the schedule for the online Book Boyfriend Box read-a-thon. The other is a list of songs from this box’s novel that would make a great playlist while reading. I would’ve liked to have seen the service go a step further and actually create a Spotify playlist, but this is still a fun way to explore the fictional world a little further.

At the bottom of the box was this month’s new release novel. The service chose We Are Still Tornadoes by Michael Kun and Susan Mullen. It’s a contemporary novel following two friends when one goes off to college. It’s written in letters between the characters. I haven’t read it yet, but I’m looking forward to it. With the book were also a signed bookplate and a printed letter from the authors. You’ve got to love signed books!

Overall, everything in this box was of very nice quality and added up to at least the cost of the box. I’m a fan of Jane Austen so I loved the thought that went into all the extras and the novel was one I’d been meaning to read, so that was a good surprise.

If you’d like to try out the Book Boyfriend Box for February, click here to sign up for the “Out of This World” theme. It will have a retail value of over $50 for the same low $29.99 plus shipping.
