The Simpsons is about to make television history in more ways than one. First, the season 29 premiere will kick off with its first ever hour-long special and second, that episode will feature the voices of rappers Snoop Dogg, RZA and Common.
Entertainment Weekly noted that Snoop Dogg, RZA and Common will not only appear as cartoon characters in the season premiere, but they'll also be voicing them too. The episode is going to be called "The Great Phatsby" and it will serve as a hip-hop parody of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In The Simpsons' retelling, Homer (not Nick Carroway) will narrate the story of the "doomed friendship" between Mr. Burns and fictional rapper Jay G. The relationship will supposedly turn sour after Jay G causes Mr. Burns to spiral into bankruptcy and Mr. Burns has to enlist the help of Homer, Bart, "force of nature" Praline (voiced by Taraji P. Henson) and Jazzy James (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) to get his retribution.
"The Great Phatsby" will air in January 2017.
