After a 2016 election cycle that was widely regarded as the most divisive in recent history, the divisive rhetoric continues. Joss Whedon, a filmmaker and outspoken Clinton supporter, is the latest to contribute to this political divide.
Last Friday, Whedon sent a vulgar tweet aimed at Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
Violence solves nothing. I want a rhino to fuck @SpeakerRyan to death with its horn because it's FUNNY, not because he's a #GOPmurderbro
— Joss Whedon (@joss) January 14, 2017
It has yet to be made clear what prompted Whedon to go on this tirade against Ryan. Whedon has not commented on the tweet, nor explained his motivation for such inflammatory comments. Twitter, rightfully so, has responded with immense backlash towards his ill-advised tweet.
I'm a just gonna save this, because the internet never forgets when someone is being a cunt. @joss @SpeakerRyan pic.twitter.com/CXGgbvrfif

Me: You know, maybe we can find some bipartisan common ground.
Joss Whedon: I literally want a rhino to fuck Paul Ryan to death
Me: Ok nah

Joss. Dude. Stuff like this does not help the cause. #josswhedon goes after P. Ryan w/ profane tweet | https://t.co/tks4aFk9KN #bethechange

Whedon has found positive ways to contribute to politics, like pausing his career to work full-time on the Save the Day PAC. He directed this video as part of his commitment.
Whedon has not deleted the tweet, and neither he nor his team have responded for requests for comments. Despite whatever intentions Whedon has, his profane comments set a bad example for a nation that is deeply divided.
