Tom Hiddleston issues apology for tone deaf acceptance speech

Tom Hiddleston won two awards Sunday at the 74th Annual Golden Globes. One was for best actor in a limited series or TV movie for Night Manager, which was a well deserved victory, but things got awkward when he gave his acceptance speech.

He used the opportunity to shed some light on issues he thought were important. Issues like how he is proud for bringing comfort to UNICEF workers in the South Sudan because they love his show.

Then after having accepted his first award, he won the award for "most self-indulgent and tone deaf acceptance speech ever." Okay, so the second one isn't actually an award, but if it was an award Hiddleston would have won it in by a landslide. I wonder if his acceptance speech for that award would have been as self-indulgent as the first?

Naturally, celebrities and other social media users wasted no time expressing their displeasure with his speech.

Thank you to Tom Hiddleston and all actors who dare to perform in projects that are shown in some of the most dangerous parts of he world.

Appropriately, Tom Hiddleston later released an apology via Facebook for his inelegance. In the post, he apologized for letting his nerves get the best of him, stating his only intention was to "salute the incredible bravery and courage of the men and women who work so tirelessly for UNICEF UK, Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and World Food Programme, and the children of South Sudan."

Well that's a noble cause Mr. Hiddleston, but next time just try doing that without unnecessarily telling everyone how proud you are that people love your show.
