Harrison Ford mistakenly lands plane on taxiway, causing near miss

Harrison Ford, 74, landed his privately owned, single engine Husky on a taxiway rather than the runway he was cleared for. The incident occurred Feb. 13 at Orange County, California's John Wayne Airport.

NBC reports that Ford flew directly over an American Airlines 737 with 110 passengers that was waiting take off on the taxiway. Ford's voice was captured by air traffic controllers saying,  "Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?"

The incident has led to an investigation by the FAA, who issued a statement, “Air traffic controllers cleared the pilot of a single-engine Aviat Husky to land on Runway 20L at John Wayne Airport Monday afternoon. The pilot correctly read back the clearance. The pilot then landed on a taxiway that runs parallel to the runway, overflying a Boeing 737 that was holding short of the runway. The FAA is investigating this incident.”

This is not the first close call that Ford has experienced. In 2015, according to Variety, the actor made an emergency crash landing on a golf course in which he escaped with somewhat critical injuries.
