‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ cast reunites for 20-year anniversary (Video)

Into every generation a slayer is born, but for fans of the 1990's supernatural drama there will only ever be one true slayer and that is Sarah Michelle Gellar backed by her Scooby gang.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer celebrated its official 20th anniversary earlier this month, but the festivities are not over yet. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, the cast of Buffy reunited for a celebratory photoshoot and interview.

Director of the pop culture classic, Joss Whedon, thought the reunion was “surreal.”

“For the most part, this is like a high school reunion but much worse because they all still look really great. I was hoping some of them would puff out a bit," he joked. "But that did not take place.”

For the actors of a show that lasted seven years, the shoot was much like a high school reunion. The former cast mates talked and caught up in between shoots as they showed off pictures of their kids and talked about life post-Buffy.

Taking part in the reunion was Whedon, Gellar, Emma Caulfiend, Amber Benson, Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz, James Martsers, Seth Green, Charisma Carpenter, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kristine Sutherland, Alexis Denisof and Nicholas Brendon.

“I’m so incredibly proud of what we all created,” Gellar said. “Sometimes you need distance to really understand the gravitas of that.”

“It was the role of a lifetime,” said Hannigan, who played Willow. “I met the love of my life [costar Alexis Denisof]. And just to get to go to work every day and have Joss sort of train me—I’ll never have a better experience than that.”

For the actors of the show and the fans who still watch it religiously, Buffy has become much more than just a television show. The series covered many genres (horror, comedy, teen soap, musical, and silent film, oh my!) had one of the most unique heroines ever seen on screen, and taught life lessons about high school, love and growing up.

“The most important thing to me is that I have had people come up to me and say the show made me feel different about what they could be, about what they could do, about how they respond to problems about being a female leader,” Whedon said. “People getting strength from my own little terrors is... There is no better legacy than that.”
