I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. Every winter I rewatch the movies and every couple of years I reread the books. The series is like comfort food to me as it invokes a sense of warmth and happiness. But while I have a lot of Harry Potter fandom merchandise, one item I didn’t have was a journal.
I am excited to share information with my fellow fans about new Harry Potter journals from Insight Editions. This month they released multiple Harry Potter journals, including one for each of the four Hogwarts houses, one with the Hogwarts crest and one focused on the wizarding world that features the nine and three quarters symbol. Insight Editions was kind enough to send me three journals to try out: the Slytherin Ruled Pocket Journal, Hogwarts Ruled Pocket Journal and J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World Travel Journal: Ruled Pocket Notebook.
Each journal is the perfect size for traveling. Being a bit bigger than a smartphone, they fit well in purses, bags and the pockets of most men’s jeans. As far as performance, the journals are malleable and seem like they could handle wear and tear well. Each journal has 192 pages of lined paper. They each have a ribbon bookmark so you can keep your place, and a have an elastic band to keep them closed when not in use. In the back of each book is a little attached folder. There is art on the inside front and back over, and a property of page that when opened has information and pictures.
The Slytherin Ruled Pocket Journal features this fun pattern in the front and back of the journal.
Its information page tells you a bit about Slytherin and has pictures of the common room and Quidditch team. It also features small pictures and information about a few famous Slytherin alumnus, including Severus Snape and Draco Malfoy.
The Hogwarts Ruled Pocket Journal has an information page with pictures of the school. The inside front and back covers are beautifully decorated with artwork. The front shows Hogwarts Castle and a bit of the Forbidden Forest, while the back is of the Quidditch pitch.
J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World Travel Journal also features some nice artwork. The front inside cover depicts the Hogwarts Express, while the back shows a city scene from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It also came with a MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) card and a cute little card about fees on the Knight Bus. The information page shows a timetable for the Hogwarts Express at Hogsmeade and a ticket.
I am very impressed with these journals. They are sturdy and have great artwork. Overall, I think they are worth the price and great gifts for Harry Potter fans. I am also impressed with the company. According to the packaging, with the help of Roots of Peace, they grow two trees for every one used to make their journals.
You can get any of the Harry Potter journals above, plus those from the other Hogwarts houses directly from Insight Editions, as well as at various stores including Target, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.
