Before the Kardashians took their place in reality TV, there was the Osbourne family. In her new memoir, Kelly Osbourne recalls an incident where her cancer-stricken mother, Sharon Osbourne, had a seizure. It was a scary moment for the star's life because her father Ozzy OD'd at the same time.
The horrifying memory stuck with Kelly when she realized she could lose both her parents in the same moment.
It was 2002 and Sharon was fighting stage-three colorectal cancer. Because of the fear, this caused Ozzy to turn to drugs to cope with the pain.
According to People, Kelly said, "[One night] Mum had a seizure. I finally called for an ambulance, and together with the idiot nurse, we got Mum stabilized.
"I had reason to be scared. Dad was there in his boxers, and I watched him scoop his hand into a bowl of pills, swallow a handful of something, and then wash it down with vodka, like it was water and he was dying of thirst."
Soon, they were all in the ambulance. And when Ozzy reached for Sharon to check if she was breathing, he passed out with his hand over her mouth.
Kelly continued, "It looked like he was trying to kill her."
She admitted that she was fearful of her father during this time.
"I was sobbing and shaking, scared out of my mind," she shared. "The EMTs took pity on me and decided not to call the police, but said that they were rushing Dad into detox as soon as we got to the hospital."
And it was a good thing. He needed it. Since that night, he struggled with drug addiction.
In 2013, he posted on Facebook admitting to his problem.
"For the last year and a half I have been drinking and taking drugs," he wrote. "I was in a very dark place and was an a**hole to the people I love most, my family. However, I am happy to say that I am now 44 days sober."
Since then, he has tried to be a better person. And so has Kelly.
She even spoke about her drug and alcohol problem in her memoir. In fact, she recalled multiple rehab visits. Kelly also shared how she takes her sickness with her day by day. Ultimately, she just wants to be happy.
She added, "Anything is better than the way it was."
Kelly was not always a role model type. At a young age, the celebrity was exposed to the heavy metal scene and rebelled during her teenage years on the family's insane reality show. But that is no longer the case.
Her memoir, There Is No F*cking Secret: Letters From a Badass Bitch, is set to be released on April 25.
