Billy Ray Cyrus changes his name to Cyrus

Whatever you do don’t call Billy Ray Cyrus by his first name anymore.

According to Rolling Stone, Cyrus is dropping the Billy Ray and will just go by the name Cyrus. The name change will become official when he turns 56 this summer.

"After August 25th, I will be the artist formerly known as Billy Ray. I'm just going by my last name Cyrus," he said. "I always went by Cyrus, and I begged Mercury Records to call me Cyrus in the beginning because that's what I was comfortable with. I'm going to the hospital where I was born in Bellefonte, Kentucky and legally changing my name."

The name change comes as the singer celebrates the 25th anniversary of his 1992 single "Achy Breaky Heart." In addition to changing his name, Miley Cyrus’s father will be releasing a new version of the smash hit. The new version will be an electric dance tune and will feature Spanglish (Spanish and English) lyrics, according to Country Living. This isn’t the first time that Cyrus has done a new version of the song. In 2004, he released a rap version of the song.

Cyrus is working on releasing a new album and is still doing CMT’s Still the King, where he plays an Elvis Presley impersonator.
