'The Shannara Chronicles' moves from MTV to Spike TV for season 2

The popular fantasy drama The Shannara Chronicles will be moving from MTV to Spike TV for the long-awaited season 2 coming this fall.

Viacom announced that Spike TV will be re-branding itself as Paramount Network sometime in early 2018, making The Shannara Chronicles a perfect fit for the general audience that the network will be aiming for in the near future.

Based on the book series by Terry Brooks, the television series premiered in January 2016. Like the first season, the season 2 is filmed on location in New Zealand and will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. Season 2 is set to take place one year after the finale of season 1.

The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.

The series stars Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko and Marcus Vanco. In addition to the original cast, Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie and Desmond Chiam will all be joining the show this coming season.

To introduce its viewers to the series, Spike will begin airing season 1 of The Shannara Chronicles on June 29 at 11 p.m. EST after the Spike original series, The Mist. No official premiere date for season 2 has been announced yet.
