Two-time Emmy winner and multiple-time nominee Alf Clausen has been fired from the long-running animated series The Simpsons. Clausen had been composing music for the show for 27 years.
In an interview with Variety, Clausen said he got a call from producer Richard Sakai, who told him that the show was looking for “a different kind of music.”
Clausen then later took to his Twitter to confirm the news:
Thank you for all of the support...unfortunately, the news is true... https://t.co/jBQH0b40cz

Clausen had scored over 560 episodes for The Simpsons throughout his career. He had also done composing work for the shows Alf and Moonlighting. Clausen insisted on using an expensive 35-piece orchestra every week while working on The Simpsons— which is causing some speculation as being the reason behind his firing.

The fans, however, were sad to see him go and took to social media to post their responses, including a respectful tweet from Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame :
Sad news of Alf Clausen. He reinvented the sound of prime-time animation. I hope The Simpsons keeps the orchestra. Big part of a great show.

Alf Clausen is as important to that show as some cast members, so the decision, like the daily decision to let the show live, is appalling.

The Simpsons has yet to announce who will be taking over for Clausen. The show is now getting ready to start its 29th season, making it the longest-running scripted TV series to date.
