"If 'Kid Rock for Senate' has got folks in disarray, wait 'til they hear 'Kid Rock for President of the U.S.A.'!"
Kid Rock made the statement during a pre-show warm up ahead of his Detroit concert series and has watchdog group Common Cause crying foul.
According to USA Today, the group has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission and is asking for in inquiry as to whether Kid Rock has violated election laws.
Common Cause's vice president for policy and litigation, Paul S. Ryan said:
“Given the activities we’ve documented in the complaint, he can’t reasonably claim to be merely testing the waters of candidacy and thus exempt from candidate filing requirements. He is a candidate and is obligated to abide by all the rules."
Other comments made by the artist, including "think you have to remind me that Black Lives Matter? Nazi f*****g bigots and now in the KKK, I say screw all you a******s, stay the f**k away," has National Action Network's Detroit chapter calling for the cancellation of the concert series, which is a lead off to the opening of the new Little Caesars Arena.
Chapter president Rev. Charles Williams II, made the statement, "This is the straw that broke the camel's back. When you hire Kid Rock, who is known to be dog-whistling and cat-calling to white supremacist organizations and the white supremacist community, alt-right, whatever you want to call them, and you take our tax dollars to do that? That's wrong."
Detroit citizens, most of whom are black, are paying $34 million towards the stadium, which will be the home of the Red Wings and Pistons, in taxpayer-funded bonds.
Despite the complaints being made, many people are still curious and excited about the idea of Kid Rock running for office.

Kid Rock had already started addressing the issue of whether or not his statements are "campaigning" in a post over Labor Day weekend on his website:
What do you think about what Kid Rock said? Is he a good candidate for public office or is it just hype?
