WATCH: Spike Jonze directs a live dance number during 'The Tonight Show'

Spike Jonze — masterfully director of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation. and Her — showed up on The Tonight Show to shoot a live three-and-a-half minute long music video starring Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Short Term 12) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Only Lovers Left Alive).

This short music video is just a quick preview of a much larger project that has been in development. Jonze’s Changers: A Dance Story is a 30-minute long dance show that will be opening on September 15 in the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in New York. The full-length project, directed by Jonze, also stars Stanfield and Wasikowska.

“This is the first piece of a 30-minute part,” said Jonze while talking to Fallon. “This sort of sets up their relationship. The play, or dance-piece or whatever you call it, is basically about the evolution of their relationship.”

Jonze also said that, at some point, the project will be filmed and released for the public to view.

Changers: A Dance Story explores the changing nature of relationships and emotions through song and dance. Seeing how Jonze has made several music videos, including working with artist like Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Arcade Fire, this seems like it’s right in his wheel-house and something we definitely want to see.
