Michelle Obama hopes to inspire in Becoming.
Michelle Obama has announced a Nov. 13 release date for her first memoir, Becoming.
Obama, 54, will be able to reflect on her time as First Lady in the White House and where life has taken her now. Mostly, though, she hopes that her readers will find inspiration in her writing.
“Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience. It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life … how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others," says Obama in a statement to People Magazine.
Obama, who previously wrote American Grown, has come a long way since her childhood. She understands that she didn't start from wealthy beginnings and wants to continue to use her position to empower others. Speaking to a group in Indianapolis where she touched upon her memoir, she offered the advice of being "kind and open and generous and compassionate, [and to show] empathy for others."
Being published by Penguin Random House, Becoming supposedly has been written alongside the upcoming memoir from former president Barack Obama, which has an expected 2019 release.
The bid for the duo-deal supposedly reached a huge amount of $60 million. According to The Associated Press, though, the Obamas plan to stay philanthropic and donate a "significant portion" of the proceeds to the Obama Foundation.
Earlier this month, the former-White House couple appeared at the Smithsonian U.S. National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. for the unveiling of their personal portraits.
